When was the last time the Washington Redskins had a player that resonated on a national level? Who was the last player to don the burgundy and gold who casual fans from around the country tuned in to see?
Honestly, I’m struggling to come up with the answer, but it’s clear that this is how things are going to be with Robert Griffin III in town. Even before he’s ever taken a snap at the pro level, he’s already achieved rockstar status because of everything he was able to accomplish during his amazing college career.
Putting a doormat program like Baylor on the map and taking home the Heisman Trophy obviously made RGIII a household name, which is why Griffin appeared on The Tonight Show last night.
During the segment, Griffin chatted with Jay Leno about growing up in a military household, proposing to his longtime girlfriend and, of course, the flashy socks he’s known for. Oh, and the new face of the franchise can also beatbox.
After giving Leno and the dude from House* their own pair of RGIII socks, Griffin grabbed the microphone and showed off his beatbox skills just for the heck of it. All in all, it was a fun segment that showed the over 60 demographic how fun loving and easy going RGIII is as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.
*”You’re risking a patient’s life!”
For those who missed it, the video of Griffin’s segment on The Tonight Show can be viewed on NBC’s website. Here’s a link to part one and here’s part two. And just for giggles, here’s a link to Griffin’s segment from the Late Show with David Letterman when he helped out with the Top 10 list last December.
Needless to say, this guy has already made more of an impact than John Beck.
