Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

Noel Gallagher is the epitome of a rock star from yesteryear. All he had to do was take to the stage and before he even played his first note, the sold-out crowd was already in the palm of his hands. By the time Gallagher, along with his current band, High Flying Birds, struck his first chord, the building was already rock which made for a wonderfully entertaining evening for Manchester City’s biggest fan, as well as everyone else in attendance. Wizards have no answers for Antetokounmpo

After winning six of their previous eight games, the Washington Wizards hoped to continue their hot streak as they hosted the Milwaukee Bucks for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee matchup at Capital One Arena, January 15. Shortly after tipoff though, it was readily apparent that forward Giannis Antetokounmpo had other plans. The Greek Freak dominated the day with 27 points and 20 rebounds, leading the Bucks to a relatively easy 104-95 win over the Wizards. All Star point […]

Walk The Moon

I wasn’t overly familiar with the musical stylings of Walk The Moon prior to their show at The Anthem. Safe to say I was in the minority on this night, as the young crowd bellowed along with song after song, providing ample energy throughout the evening. Add in musicians flying around the stage and absolutely stunning lighting backdropping the performance, and it all came together for a memorable encounter at one of D.C.’s newest and hottest venues.

Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups have been producing alternative rock hits for nearly a decade and a half, with no signs of slowing down. From their debut EP, Pikul, in 2005 through their most recent release, Better Nature, the Los Angeles-based band has consistently cranked out alternative anthems. This night at the 9:30 Club was no different, as they brought the house down with such hits as “The Royal We,” “Panic Switch” and “Lazy Eye.”

Prophets of Rage

Rage Against The Machine. Public Enemy. Cypress Hill. Each of these heavyweight acts always had plenty to say and didn’t give a damn who they offended in the process. That was clearly the theme of the night when The Prophets of Rage visited the nation’s capital for their sold-out show at the 9:30 Club. While many acts are happy to leave politics at the door, these musical icons refused to hold back — launching into “Unfuck The World,” “Take The […]

Greta Van Fleet

It’s a safe bet that the next time Greta Van Fleet comes to town, it’ll be at a much bigger venue with even more fanfare. That’s because their sold-out show at DC9, which also featured Goodbye June, was such a smash hit and it’s only a matter of time before these Michigan kids are household names. Before they took to the stage on this night, I had a chance to sit down with guitarist Jake Kiszka for a one-on-one interview. Do […]

Jack Johnson

It was a minimalist’s dream as Jack Johnson and Lake Street Dive took to the stage at Merriweather Post Pavilion. There weren’t any highly choreographed dance numbers or slickly-produced video packages. Hell, they barely even needed to plug in the headliner’s guitar. But those in attendance were treated to a marathon of acoustic hits from the surfer-turned-singer, as well as Lake Street Dive. At last count, it appears Johnson performed 27 different songs before they finally convinced him that the night […]
