Oates was the guy I was hoping they were targeting and was thrilled with the hire. Ron Wilson part duex? No thank you. I agree NHL coaching experience is a benefit but the retreads that were out there didn’t get me excited. Disco Dan up the road in Pittsburgh didn’t have NHL experience and they got a parade! His attention to detail, he is better (yes better than the great 8) than any player the Caps have now. He commands the respect and from what has been said very respected in the coaching ranks wherever he has gone. I also don’t think you can put BB in the failure category. He didn’t get us to promise land….but it was a fun ride for a few years and he helped bring hockey fans back to DC. And one last thing….I WANT MY DC TICKER TAPE PARADE!!!!

I think lumping Boudreau into your dissapointing footstep catagory is misguided. if memory serves me correctly, didn’t he get to 200 wins faster than ANY other coach in NHL History? and made the most commercials at the same time.
