Congrats are in order for the Hershey Bears who on Friday night defeated the Manitoba Moose 4-1 to win the only hockey finals people actually cared about.

A three-goal first period for Hershey led the way as the Bears captured their record 10th Calder Cup trophy, and their second championship in the last four years. Kyle Wilson, Chris Bourque, Alexander Giroux and Keith Aucoin scored for the Bears and Calder Cup MVP Michal Neuvirth stopped 24 of 25 shots in the game six win. The 21-year-old Neuvirth went 16-6 with four shutouts during the AHL postseason.

  1. I wish they had won it at Hershey my brother and me dropped 120 bucks for two tickets for game 5. I even got drunk and bought a bear head hat. Go Bears. Congratulations Gary Bettman on the Conn Smythe as the MVP for the 2008-09 Pittsburgh Penguins*

  2. Funny how this area always finds someone else to blame for the Caps woes and Penguin success. Yeah, I’m sure the NHL would much rather have small-market Pittsburgh win the Cup instead of the large-market, high-income DC area taking it home. It all comes back to that same old bottom line: Too much talent.

Ovie will win one when he gets a better supporting cast. Gary Bettman will have nothing to do with it.

God, Caps fans bitterness always makes these Cups that much more enjoyable.

  4. I’d make a comment about Ovechkin’s two-month beard growth, but since he’s yet to last very long in the playoffs, we’ll just have to wait and see.
