Nice read.

Let's hope the Capitals can stay relevant (assuming they can get far in the "real" season this year) for more than a few seasons and not win once then fade like the Tampa Bays and Carolinas of the league. Seems like McPhee and Leonsis are trying to not let that happen.

McPhee and McFanboy...

Murf at Homer McFanboy is generating some quality Washington Capitals coverage at his formerly mostly-Redskins site. He chatted with Capitals' GM George McPhee recently; check out GMGM's candid responses....

I came across your blog today after a good friend forwarded this link. First of all, excellent work. This is precisely the the kind of writing and view point omitted or watered down in most other web/news "outlets" relating to D.C. area professional sports.

Admittedly, I'm not a huge Wizards fan and I realize that the team has a history of losing. Perhaps that's why when growing up in D.C. I never became a fan of the then-Bullets. I wish to focus my attention more on the Redskins and their front office ineptitude.

Just last night on the daniel-owned Redskins Broadcast Station I had to suffer through the moronic yes-man bull shit of Larry Michael. Larry was responding to fan mail inquiries as they related to our Executive VP of Football Operations, Vinny Cerrato. Michael went on record defending his "past sucesses with "other organizations"" throughout a "successful" NFL and NCAA career. I wanted to punch him in the face. Exactly the type of sycophant that owner daniel loves to surround himself with.

You see, the Redskins will NEVER win under the existing snyderrato formula of poor draft selections and mutant free agent choices and it's not even Cerrato's fault. In a way, he's been set up to fail in much the same way Coach Zorn has. We can get into the nuances of a decrepit offensive line, lack of a pass rush, midget wide-outs and an aging sensitive tail-back and all agree those are glarring issues facing the Skins organization in 2009.

However, nothing will be done about these problems because we deal draft picks annually for injury-prone, expensive and over-the-hill "talent." We sign players with poor work ethics who show up at mini camps and preseason practice ill-prepared and out of shape. We fire coaches and QBs before we give them the tools they need to succeed in the most parody-laden league in all of sports. It eminates from the top and because we have a C-suite full of monkeys borrowed from last year's Careerbuilder.com superbowl commercials, we will continue to invest in lottery tickets as opposed to mining young talent and building from within. Snyder doesn't know this. Cerrato doesn't have the skills or scouts available to him to know this.

We as fans hope blindly each September that maybe this year something will click. It ain't gonna click.

Lets hope the daniel gets wise in this his 11th season as owner and realizes that after the Skins threaten to tie Detroit's fantastic no-win record, he goes out and hires a GM with actual football knowledge. Oh, and as far as the Nats are concerned, forget it. Lerner spends money like a Great Depression survivor in a high end electronics store. Great front office there in Jim Bowden. I have great faith in him. However, as long as the money spicket is in the off position, we can count on 100 loss seasons from now hence.
