You’re in New Zealand, so we’ll let you slide on the Nylander comment. I was at the Caps-Canucks game Monday night, where Nylander and Alexander Semin were the two best players on the ice. Nylander finished with a goal and three assists and looked nothing like a guy who has lost a step or is returning from injury. Trust me, if the Caps have problems this year it’ll be with their defense and/or goaltender situation. Not Nylander.

The only thing bothering me this year about the Caps is the return of Nylander. I am not so unsure the team turn around came about when he went down. Just a conspiracy theory is all.

Second is there such a thing as fourth year slump?

Don Cherry thinks so:

I just love the fact that even if ovie does not put up the numbers he did last year, and the caps go far, he’ll be dancing just as much as he did before.

Been laughing at Caps fans’ delusional enthusiasm for years, but this year…no delusions. The team is seriously good, the conference doesn’t have a powerhouse, and Ovechkin is hungry. Not saying they’re a shoo-in for the Cup, but they should at the very least make the Conference Finals. Once there….

Should be a sweet year for Caps fans. Pens fans? Not so much. But I refuse to be greedy. The last two were as sweet as any save for the Cup years.
